No problem, I'll still be here when you have access to your materials.

Just a quick caution (I didn't add this originally because I didn't really expect a reply), if you're specifically looking for genealogical details, I'm likely to be less help than you wished for.  The really short version is that my Grandmother Olive was married and had a son (my father), but her husband was killed in battle in Italy during the war.  She remarried, Richard Dillon, just after the war and they subsequently moved to Canada. As far as I know, Olive and Richard never had children together.

I can add, though, referencing the original post, an explanation about the combined boat and flight trips.  Olive and Richard came to Canada by ship, my father came a bit later by flight.  The documentation would be because he travelled as an unaccompanied minor.  This is a bit speculative, as my father died some years back so I can't ask him, but I recall hearing something very close to that as a child.

Cheers,
Colin

Thanks for that reply. What was Olive's maiden name and the name of her first husband? Either might be the line I was tracking.
Thanks
Mick

Mick,

I can answer that without asking my mother.  Her maiden name was Olive Cook.  I actually knew her mother, Mae Cook, as well.  Mae died in 1990.  The family name of Olive's first husband was Wass, I can't recall his first name, but I'll check.  He died at the battle of Monte Casino.  My father, Trevor, was born in 1938, in Mansfield, England.

I've been thinking I should document what I know of that side of the family, my niece and I already have things well in hand for my mother's side.  I think I'll take this opportunity to do exactly that, and I'd be happy to share what I can as I go.

Cheers,
Colin
