Who is this Pamela?
« on: Thursday 29 April 10 11:27 BST (UK) »
Help needed please- can anyone decipher the surname of the witness Pamela ........ on this certificate? I'm hoping it will help identify the family of the bridegroom.
Many thanks
Sue

Looking at what Pamela's are around in the area in 1881 I think it says Pamela Downs,

will follow her up on your other thread where all the details are
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Mmm not sure what the surname is- but look at how the Pameler is spelt.
I wonder if that's how she signed,or how the vicar thought it should be spelt.

I think it's Pameler Downs too.

I have a Pemela in my line - I think it's how the locals thought the name should be spelled.

Thanks for your help- it does look like Downs. Unfortunately, I can't find a connection to that surname just yet but I'm still trying.

Is it possible the surname in question is Dowd?  If you look at the spacing and the ascending line for the last letter, I thought it may be a d.
Researching: Cronin / Nolan - Gortadrislig, Kerry
Finn/Clifford - Callinafercy and Scort, Kerry
Spillane - Milltown
Also:- Byrne / Tyrrell - Dublin

It looks like Pameler Downs I cannot see a X so it looks like she signed her own name.
