John Dwyer, father of Michael Dwyer famous Wicklow rebel
« on: Thursday 28 January 10 22:00 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the brothers and sisters of John dwyer  born about 1748 married Mary Byrne.

John Dwyer was the father of (Michael Dwyer b. 1772 Glen of Imaal, Wicklow)  the famous rebel of 1798 rebellion in Ireland.

John Dwyer was from seskin, co wicklow, and and then moved to eadstown, co wicklow and was a farmer.

Would appreciate any help in the above as I have traced most of his son's (Michael) descendants.

John Dwyer's son, Michael Dwyer (m) Mary Doyle 1798 and died Tuesday 23 August 1825, age 53 at Cabramatta - The Tellicherry Five, a book by Kieran Sheedy, gives a lot of information on this family but nothing (as far as I can remember) on John's family.

Cheers

Hi all
Especially wicklow people
I need information on Michael Dwyer's father John Dwyer of Seskin Co Wicklow
I know that John Dwyer married Mary Byrne (there parents of Michael Dwyer)
I need to know when John Dwyer was born and when he died and locations.
Also the big one -  I really need the names of his brothers this I'd say may help me big time as this
is the direct line I need on the male side
And if possible who his father was.

I have a site on Michael Dwyer and know his childrens children and so on.
Would really appreciate any help from ye wicklow people maybe your relatives might throw some light on this.
I have done some major research on Michael Dwyer but have found little on his father.

Do you have any information on Mary Byrne. My own ancestors were Byrne/Doyle, Ballinguile.

As I am in Ireland I am familiar with the locations. The Byrne farms (Edward and Laurence) at Ballinguile were on the fringe of the Glen of Imall, very close to the Michael Dwyer cottage.

Hi Ailbhe
Sorry for not replying so sooner

Please be cautious about the info I am giving you below as this is research I have done and I cannot
say it is 100% as I have spent the last 17 years researching Michael Dwyer and sources have been info
I have gathered from relatives, internet etc and sometimes sources from other people can not be accurate unless you have the actual record,  birth, death cert etc to  something to back it up.

My records are as follows

Mary byrne who married John Dwyer

Mary Dwyer

Father Charles Byrne b 1729 aprox Ballyrogan, Wicklow, died Cullentragh, knockcroft, wicklow

Children of Charles Byrne were
Mary Byrne

Roseanna (Rose) Byrne b. about 1750  m. Sylvester Byrne B. 1755 (1750)
Child Hugh Vesty Byrne

Hugh Vesty Byrne B. 1770/1777/1776 Kirikee, Wicklow  D. 20/4/1842 Campbelltown NSW,
D 21/4/1842 age 72 Aird NSW (think this could be Hugh's death not sure)
married (could have been 1796) Sarah Dwyer B aprox 1774, daughter of Philip Dwyer and Mary McDonald (notes say she was born dublin 1772 and died 1/2 1872 Campbelltown NSW

Children
Philip Byrne
Michael Byrne b 1800 wicklow
Rose Byrne b 1803 wicklow
Ann Byrne b 1806 NSW
Catherine Agnes b 1807
Charles Byrne b 1809
Bridget Byrne b 1811
Mary Sarah Byrne b 1813
Sarah Byrne b 1816
James Byrne b 1818
Sylvester Byrne b 1819
Winifred Byrne b 9/7/1822
Elizabeth Mary b 23/2/1824
Rose (2) Byrne 8/2/1826 (note don't know why the (2) is noted

Winifred Byrne m. Bryan Devlin
Child Anne Delvin b aprox 1780  m. William Campbell d 1845/1846,
Anne Devlin died aprox 18/9/1851
Anne was a first cousin of Michael Dwyer (Wicklow rebel) as his mother Mary Byrne was married to John Dywer.

In relation to Anne Devlin you can google her name and you will get loads of info on her.

Thank you so much for that information.  No Edward or Laurence there.   Regarding Rose I found in 'my' Byrnes if a child died they gave another child the same name. Thanks again.

Hello.  I am a first time contributor and am interested in Doyle, McDonnell, O'Neill, Byrne and Wicklow.  My Doyles had a relationship to Michael Dwyer or his wife, Mary Doyle, or both.  In the 1820s, in NSW, one of my Doyles had a neighbouring farm to the Tellicherry Five and the first-born generation of Doyles had Dwyers and Byrnes as godparents.  The godparents were the children of Michael Dwyer and Hugh 'Vesty' Byrne.  However, the generation before also had Byrnes and Neills/Neales as godparents.  One was Myles Byrne (not sure if it was THE Myles but ...).  This was in the Catholic parish of Avoca.  I'm wondering if anyone can tell me of a Doyle connection to Hugh or Myles.  My great-grandmother was Elizabeth O'Neill daughter of John O'Neill and Mary Byrne.  She married Matthew Doyle and they came to NSW in 1851.  The towns mentioned are Rathdrum and Ballymuntha(?).  Thanks
