Liggett, Margaret Ann
« on: Tuesday 11 May 10 06:00 BST (UK) »
Margaret Ann Liggett was born in Ireland abt 1865, and migrated to Glasgow, Scotland with her parents and siblings abt.1875. Margaret appears in the 1881Scotland Census age 16, and in 1886 is a witness on her brother Richard's marriage certificate dated 31/12/1886. I cannot find any further reference on checking the 1891 census, marriage or death records. I have no reason to believe she migrated, certainly not to Australia but America possibly.
Can someone give me a lead?

There's a marriage record for Margaret Ann Liggett in Toxteth Park (Lancashire) in December 1895 (Vol 8b, Page 425). Possible spouses are William Geoghegan and Joseph Smith, who appear on the same page. You can order the certificate from the GRO here:

Have you checked to see who reported the deaths of her parents?

What was her occupation on 1881 census?

Hi Sancti

I had a look at the 1881 census on which Margaret's occupation is cited as bleachfield worker. At the time, they were living at 105 Gairbraid St, Maryhill. Like Goo, I couldn't find a death record in Scotland for Peter or Ann Liggett, Margaret's parents.

In the 1901 census, Richard Liggett (Margaret's brother), wife Marion and sons, Peter and Samuel, were living at 79 Collins St., Glasgow Robertson Memorial.

Cheers,

Rodeo

Were the parents dead at the time of Richards marriage?
