I am looking for information on the Smith Family . So far this is what I have :
The Smith family of the early 18th Century lived in St. Pancras, Westminister in London . Adam and Mary Smith raised nine children of whom Charles and Caroline’s son Edmund James would achieve prominence in the business world as the founder member of the firm ‘Smith Gore’ as well as appointments to various positions by the Crown .
The fifth child of eleven born to Edmund James and Margaret Smith, Arthur Frederick Smith born 13th May 1853 received his schooling at Harrow and Wellington College and in 1872 entered Trinity College Cambridge, before moving to Downing College in 1874 . The son of renowned ‘Crown Receiver for the Northern Counties’ and ‘Surveyor to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners’ and founder partner in 1847 of ‘Smith Gore’ (property consulting and management) , Arthur Frederick however did not enter into the family business and instead emigrated to South Africa in 1880 where he settled in Kimberley .
