Constable RIC, Michael Fleming, d. 1920
« on: Saturday 22 May 10 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,
We have a photo of a grave, but don't know if there's any family connection.  However, it was amongst old family photos, so there must be some significance.  I was wondering if anyone might be able to find out more about Michael please.

The inscription:
Sacred to the Memory of
Michael Fleming
Constable R.I.C.
And Formerly Sergeant, Irish Guards
Accidentally Killed on Duty in Ireland
22nd Nov 1920, Aged 39
R.I.P.
Erected by his Comrades

I found www.policememorial.org.uk  - Const Michael Fleming, 31 - Died 22 Nov 1920 - road traffic accident at Dromoland, Co. Clare

many thanks,
Charlotte

Jim Herlihy's book "The Royal Irish Constabulary" gives his RIC number as 70213.
It says he was born in Queen's Co. 26/11/1888

Hi Charlotte

I am also researching Michael Fleming for my family tree.
I have learnt that there were 2 others killed & 5 injured when the lorry they were travelling in crashed into the gates of Dromoland Castle but do not know the exact reason for the crash.

I am struggling to find anything else at this time so would appreciate any help possible.

Regards
Annie
