Hi,
I have really enjoyed this series. In the last episode "Crossbones girl" I was surprised that they didn't look for Elizabeth Mitchell in the 1851 census because they know she didn't die until August. It would have been another example of records available to historians even if they didn't pin it down to one individual.

I found two single Elizabeth Mitchells in the right area, albeit slightly older than 19. One in Lambeth aged 23, who although descibed as a "dressmaker" I discounted because her father was a butcher in 1841 and she probably wouldn't have had ricketts. The other aged 22 was actually a nurse at St Thomas' where the show's Elizabeth Mitchell died- but would a nurse have been buried in that graveyard?

I also found these two ladies and discounted the nurse, mainly because of the infliction. There are also a lot of Eliza Mitchell's that could fit.

Of course there is the possiblity that when the young girl was admitted to St Thomas's she may have given an assumed name or even been an unknown girl and the hospital gave her the name Elizabeth Mitchell.

There is a Crossbones Cemetary site which is very good, gives quite a bit of background info on how the site started and finished.

I thought this was a really good series - all the programmes were very interesting and very well done (although I watched them on iplayer and after a bit just started a couple of minutes in so I could avoid all the shots of the participants walking down a corridor, looking like a US drama show.  And they certainly got their money's worth out of the helicopter, didn't they  ;))

I want MORE!!! :D

Does anyone have any clue how those outside the UK can watch this series?

The only place I have found them to watch is Graboid.  You can get a free trial account for a month with 4gb of downloads.  I have gone through my month so had No1 teenage son sign up to get the latest ep.

If you want a paid account it starts at only $5/month or similar.

Unfortunately there were only 4 shows which is a pity because they were so absorbing.

I couldn't resist looking for Elizabeth Mitchell on the 1851 either. But she's not easy to track down.

Despite the discrepancy in her age (shown here as 21), I think the best candidate is the Elizabeth Mitchell shown as living in Mint Street, Southwark. This is close to Borough and in an area that seems to have been associated with prostitutes (see http://booth.lse.ac.uk/cgi-bin/do.pl?sub=retrieve_catalogue_notebook&args=b363,100,120)

There are a number of aspects of this page that make me think these young women could be prostitutes.

Any comments?
