It's possible you may find some relevant information here: -

http://www.retina.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

The site is a little awkward to navigate until you figure out the system ... however from past experience, the gentleman's research is quite thorough, ... and I've managed to find a large number of references to my own lines, there.

Hope it helps :)

Cheers
Deb

jacci,
Many thanks for your effort.
I'll probably have to admit I've hit a brick wall but at least I have found a few things on this James Lawrie.
As he fits the bill, I am going to claim him as my ancestor until someone else claims him.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Deb D,

I checked out that link you gave me.
I think that is the first time I have ever seen part of my family tree on another family tree on the internet.
He has the genealogy right but some mistakes in dates etc.
The last date on the website is 2008 but I will send him an email in case he wants to update it.

Hi Deb D,

I tried to send an email to the Steven Foster on the Foster website but the link on his site doesn't work.
It keeps coming up with an error when you submit the email.
Also the 'more info' button doesn't work.
I'm guessing he has stopped using the website.
Steven if you read this please get in touch.

Hi Buckhind,

I've sent an email to the address I had for Steven - not sure whether it's the same one as on the website, but once I establish contact (if the addy still works) I'll let you know :)

Cheers
Deb

James Lawrie was a merchant seaman onboard the Lincolnshire.
According to Australian newspapers of the time, the ship arrived in Melbourne 10th February and departed Melbourne 4th April 1863.
On the 26th May James fell overboard and was drowned.
On the 7th July the ship docked in London and reported his death.

I now know more about James Lawrie than I did a week ago but I still need to know if he was my g/g/grandad.

This is an update on James Lawrie.
The above James Lawrie is not my g/g/grandad.
He arrived in Melbourne on 10th February but my James Lawrie registered his son David's birth on 2nd February in Largo, Fife.

Browsing British newspapers I found this.

My g/g/grandad was lost at sea on Christmas day, 1865 and his son David was also lost at sea 25 years later.

I googled the Sailing ship Miramichi but cannot find any reference to it.
