« on: Wednesday 16 June 10 23:34 BST (UK) »
   Hello all
I'm trying to get more gen on my great uncles father, all I know is that he was firstly in the above unit as a Sgt, having been a railway worker in Argentina, and was later wounded in 1917 when a 1st LT in the DLI(battalion unknown).
   His name was William McBay.

anyhelp much appreciated as I'm not up to speed on WW1 researching....

I have checked his Medal Index Card  - mic (which is always a good place start for WW1 research).

It shows that William McBay served as a trooper with the Northumberland Hussars with the number  1254 and was  commissioned into the 6 th Durham Light Infantry. He went overseas in 1916 and served in Belgium (and I assume France).

The mic shows that he was inelligible for the Territorial Force War Medal (TFWM), although this entry is struck through it would appear that the TFWM was issued in December 1943.  In addition he received the British War Medal & Victory Medal.

There are three addresses given on the reverse of the card:
1. Ferro Carril Central Argentino,
    c/o Ingeniero Jefe Mecanico
    Rosario The Argentine

2. Mill House
    Middleton in Teesdale
    Co. Durham

3. 8 Oct 43
  Portion No3
Talleries F.C.C.A.
Rosario de Santa Fe
The Argentine

I trust this is of some interest.  His service papers should be available at The National Archive.

Looking at their price list, it could be either, cost of CD is extra, but I've never used the facility.

I would however suggest you get an estimate. Officer's records can vary from literally two pages to over a hundred. Generally they contain little service information as an officer, but any service in the ranks is still in the file. They can contain useful family info, although most of the records I have are of casualties, which makes a difference.
