"Died at HOME" Service Record
« on: Thursday 17 June 10 11:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all
I came across this rather sad picture a couple of days ago. "Gone but not forgoten", not this one it seems, grave location is Telgarth (mental) Hospital.
Just for the heck of it I have gathered quite a bit of info.
Name: John Lewis
Birth Place: Swansea
Death Date: 20 Oct 1915
Death Location: Home
Enlistment Location: Swansea
Rank: Private
Regiment: Welsh Regiment
Battalion: 1/6th Battalion

I can not however find his Service Records on Ances*ry.  This is a problem I have had in the past with othe "Died at Homes".  Has anyone else had this problem and found a way round it.

Cheers
peter

Mod edit... As this is the wrong card I've removed it...Also only parts of the card are really permitted on here...  ;)

Hi

I have just looked on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site and it gives the same info apart from this, husband of Mary Jane Lewis of 8, Pant Street, Danygraig, Swansea.

The CWGC should look after the grave but this one seems to have been missed but I think they have a contact you can go to on their site.

I tend to have an "odd" memory for facts

This was debated here
http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42834
in some depth in 2005 for this grave, and by the sound of it nothing has transpired.

You could resurrect that thread and see if anyone tried.

I would still like to find his Service Records though.  Do we think the would have been at the Hospital with him.

I am fairly sure he married Mary Jane MORGAN in 1889.  This info may be on his records as would any children there were.
I have found this other pic with the weeds removed.

A land fit for Heroes, Yea right. Not even today.  Some silly woman gets £55000000000 or whatever foe geting called names.  What do OUR LADS get £6.50 and a BUS PASS (If lucky).  Was the War to end ALL wars worth it .  I am not sure it was.

Sorry Galls and Guys,  I feel VERY STRONGLY about how OUR Relies graves are treated.  This one annoys me.

Is it just a trick of the light, but his grave stone seems to say that he died in 1915, but his Medal Index Card says he was discharged in March 1918.

The grave-stone seems to be wrong.

A mental hospital cemetery.  A very sad story attached to this, I suspect.

Edit;  see my next post below.
