Joseph Dowson, broker and merchant, 1800
« on: Tuesday 29 March 05 16:11 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has any info on this man, active in London 1790-1830:

In Kent's Directory, 1794, he is listed as:

"Dowson, Joseph, broker, 2 Sampsons Gardens, Wapping"

In the 1791 Universal Directory he is described as a ‘merchant’

It seems that he, and maybe his son too, was a ship broker and ship owner as well.

Thanks,
Charles

Hi Frances,
No, I hadn't looked at this site before, so many thanks for bringing it to my attention.  The London GPO Directory for 1808 looks good.
Have a great day!
Charles

PS - I am still looking for genealogical background on Dowson
