Lant - Huntingdonshire
« on: Thursday 24 June 10 20:14 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,

Can anyone find a connection between these 2 families please?  I am sure they must be related somehow but can't work out how?? :-\

Ok, I have William Lant b.1840 Ramsey, Huntingdonshire, his parents are Henry and Mary Lant, Henry b.1815 Upwood, Huntingdonshire and lived in Ramsey.

Another William Lant b.1840 Colne/Somersham, Huntingdonshire, parents John and Jane Lant residing in Colne, Huntingdonshire,  in 1851/61 census.

The two towns/villages are only a short distance from each other and with an unsual name like - Lant, I feel sure they must be related somehow, just can't figure it out ::)

Can someone please take a look and see if you can solve it please??

You need to follow them both back until you find a common ancestor (or not). Who were the parents of Henry and John? Might they have been brothers, or cousins, or not related at all?

Hi Bedfordshire Boy,

I can't find the parents of Henry, at least not using any sites online, I'd have to order the parish records in at my local family history centre.  I think John's father was Edward Lant b.1774 Ramsey.

I have a feeling these two families are related it's just a matter of proving it.

Thanks,
Elaine.

Oh great you are a star!! :)

Thank you so much for that, I will have a root through and see what matches with my lot.  With being a full time carer I don't get the time to sit and wade through the parish records, I wish I could but I have to rely on online sites and wonderful people like you to help me out.

Thanks again,

Elaine :-*

There's also the following marriage
Edward Lant and Eleanor Meace at Ramsey in 1792

The name isn't that rare in Hunts - there are over 50 Lant marriages 1754-1837

There's no marriage of William and Eleanor in Hunts - the three baptisms 1797-1802 look iffy

Hi again,

Thanks for all your help.  I'm still sat here puzzling over it all :-\

My Henry Lant was born Upwood in 1815, but he resided in Ramsey, he married a Mary West in 1838, she was from Norfolk.

The other family was Edward Lant b.1774-1839 and he married Hannah Avory, I'm still trying to connect the two but not getting very far!!!! ::)

Thanks again,
Elaine.
