Llanelly workhouse
« on: Tuesday 29 June 10 11:24 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information about a Master of Llanelly Workhouse during the period 1841 -1850.  His name was Stephen Rees.  I have looked through the Board of Governors Minute Book for Llanelly but apart from a brief mention of his wages there is no other info.  Would they advertise the Masters job in a local Newspaper?
He is listed in the 1841 census as Master of the Workhouse together with his wife Mary Ann, Matron but by 1851 I believe he had moved to Pembrokeshire.  This was the Rebbecca period so I had hoped to come across a mention of him but so far no luck.  Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks for help but I do already have that info.  I need to establish that the Stephen Rees/Reese,  Chelsea Pensioner is the same person as the Stephen Rees, Master at  Llanelli Workhouse.  Unfortunately the only records in Carmarthen barely mention the Master.  Mostly accounts and board members.

Good Morning

Apologies if you have this already but there is mention of a Stephen Rees, the master of Llanelli Workhouse in a book written by David J V Jones - Rebecca's children - maybe worth a look?

Regards

Z :)

Thanks Z  I have just done a speed read in the local reference library and found a brief mention on page 186  Do you know if Stephen Rees is mentioned again in Rebecca's Children.  He is not listed in the Index so think probably not?
