newbie problems
« on: Saturday 03 July 10 21:11 BST (UK) »
trying to establish a proper link between my known grandad (george frederick holyoake )- i have his birth certificate, and somone who appears to be him- same birth date same house( 46 addington road croydon )as my great grandad but he has an extra name ie- george frederick sharman holyoake. As a newbie this is confusing, same man? or coincidence? is this sort of thing a common problem?
help!

There is a marriage

this is the only reference I can find with Sharman as a middle name

there are some Holyoake birth reg's where the middle initial is "S"
Sidney Justin S Holyoake 1880
Alfred Cedric S J Holyoake 1894

maybe the "S" was for Sharman -only a guess

Could Sharman have been a family name ??

my grandad was george frederick holyoake born 27/9/1873@ 46 addington road croydon this is on the birth certificate.
his father samuel charles had 7 other children.

He married annie fry in eastbourne dec qtr 1919 2b 186.
The family believe he had a previous marriage in the croydon area before he moved to eastbourne and i have found a marriage for george sharman holyoake croydon june qtr 2a 393 but cant get around this sharman thing, several of the other children have the sharmen thing in thier name too. its not on his birth certificate so do i have to get the marriage cert to make a definate connection? sorry if im a bit thick!

ps  sidney justin sharman is  a brother i believe.

It is possoble that the mother remarried and the Sharman name was added then.  Or perhaps just living with someone with the name Sharman.

the possibilites and explanations could be endless.

The marriage cert would end all doubt :)
