I already knew one of the McCready's, Dugald, died in the first world war. But whilst researching the matter, I also found a Peter and a Daniel McCready also died in the same war. Now Dugald had brothers by those names. How could I find out if they were from the same family?

I am not too sure which thread your last comment relates to but war dead records can be seen on the site for the commonwealth graves commission.
There is one Dugald McCready but there is no information on him. There is one Peter and a couple of Daniel's on the site; but I do not think there are any McCready's on the war memorial in barrhead.

I didn't want to start anotherthread about the same family that's all. As regards the Barrhead war memorial, there are 3 McCready's on it. Dugald, there's a Peter and my memory escapes me as regards who the other one was.
I just thought maybe the Barrhead library or something would be able to shine some light on the subject?

Ah apologies - they are on the bottom part of the stone  -you could try emailing barrhead library - either last year or the year before they had a display about the great war. I can't recall if it listed all the war dead of Barrhead, but there was definitely a display. I think the display had been pulled together by the historian based at Giffnock.

Failing that, I will try and go through the fiche at the library but it may be some weeks before I am back over there.

Have you got this 1901 census entry:

Peter Mccready 54, fireman b. Campbelltown, Argyllshire
Mary Mccready 44
Alexander Mccready 20
Nellie Mccready 19
John Mccready 16
Agnes Mccready 13
Daniel Mccready 10
Peter Mccready 8
Dugald Mccready   6
Walter Mccready 6

Address: 47 Graham Street, Neilston

From the Barrhead War Memorial, you have the names of Peter, Dougald and Walter http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~miningvillages/barrhead.html and also www.barrhead-scotland.com/Resources/admin/server_table_data/GenericList.asp?START=221

From the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site, you have:

www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=869834

Hi Monica, thanks very much for the links, they've helped enormously.

I found Two Daniel McCready's, born within two years of each other in SP, both listed as born in Gateside, Neilston, So I just need to figure out if the Daniel in My family is the one who died in the War. He is listed in the same regiment as Dugald and Peter, But it appears he signed up in Dingwall, Ross-Shire?

I did see the location but, perhaps, I thought this might have been where he was living at the time whe he enlisted. Has to be a reason why his name was included on the Barrhead WW1 Memorial. Tried to check for service papers for the three but couldn't easily see any unfortunately.

Perhaps as Murphyz suggested, the library might have more personal details on the men listed on the memorial?
