Did you ever get an answer regarding your query about the marriage of James Deakin and Florence Mills as I think James Deakin is my Grandfather. My father (now 78) only met him (James Deakin his father) once when he was 16.

All I have managed to find out is Florence died on 4.2.84 in Worksop and her address at the time of her death was 26 Lanchester Gardens. James Deakin died in September 1982(I don't have an exact date).

I have his first marriage details and wedding certificate but no record of any divorce.

Any further information you have would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Hello, Thank you for reply.  Haven't been researching James first marriage for a long time.   However.   You appear to be on the right track.  James was my great Uncle , he was my Grandmothers brother.  I was aware he was married previous to Florry and that he had a Son, not sure but the name James was mentioned and that he probably lived Rotherham.  It was never really discussed.   I can send you details of the Deakin family from 1783.  I do have some earlier details but would take me some time to sort them out. Uncle Jim had eight brothers and sisters.  James parents were  William James Deakin  born 1863 Fazeley Staffs  Married Mary Elizabeth Salmons born 1865 Cuckney. They married 9th Dec 1882 Worksop Notts.  Celebrated  50th wedding anniversary Dec 1932.  They it appears are your Gt Grandparents.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. This has finally confirmed I have the right family.

For you information the details of the first marriage of James Deakin are:

He married a Maud Alberto on the 23rd December 1937 at the Parish Church, Saundby which is near to Gainsborough. At the time of the marriage his address was shown as 84 Vessey Road, Worksop. His fathers name was shown as William Deakin. The marriage certificate records him as been 44 year old bachelor and Maud Alberto as age 23. Based on this it would have made his year of birth either 1892/1893 but I have since clarified his actual date of birth was 11.12.89. We think this difference may be that he took a few years of his age when he married because of the age difference.

My father was born on 1.10.38. and is a Michael Frederick Deakin. Apparently my Grandma left James Deakin when my Dad was three month old and went back to live with her mother. I did find a record of a James Deakin age 49 living by himself at 45 Manton Crescent, Worksop in 1939 which seems to tie in with this.

My mum and dad married on 4.5.63. at Holy Trinity Church, Gainsborough and his home address was still showing as Saundby. They had two children myself born on 10.2.66. and my brother born 13.4.68. ( I can let you have the full family tree if you want it).

If you could let me have details of the Deakin family tree that would be really useful.I have found ten other possible brother/sisters but perhaps not all of them survived. They are: Annie, Gertrude, Selena, Maggie, Willis, Doris, Hilda, Arthur, Ada and William one of whom I assume was your grandmothers brother.

Do you know if there is a grave anywhere for William and Mary Deakin? Possibly in Kiveton Park?

Do you have the dates James Deakin and Florry (Florence Deakin) married and died? and if there is a grave for either of them possibly in Worksop.

Do you know the name June Shepherd  as someone of that name has put a family tree of the Mills family on Ancestry UK with a photo of my Grandad and this is, so far, the only picture we have of him (James Deakin).

Are you aware of anyone around who would remember him/have any photo's etc.

Sorry for all the questions but your response has confirmed I am on the right track and I would like to get details for my dad if I can.

I am planning to go to Kiveton Park/Worksop to see what I can find out but any information you may have may help us narrow down the search.

Thanks again for you help

Hello,  Having trouble sending full messages out on Rootschat.  Sorry.    June is married to my Cousin.   He's never had anything to do with Uncle James.   The photos came about by him researching the Shepherds.  His Mother was Maggie daughter of Doris Clark my Grandmother.    My Aunt Doris sent him the photos  sadly she passed away early this year age 90.    My Grandmother gave her the photos years ago.   James was a bit of a dark horse, never had anything to say about his past. My Grandmother was the closest to him and even she  didn't know the  details of his first wife.  No  one was even sure he had ever married Flo.    There is no one left in Kiveton that has any connection to the family only Uncle Jack Grandma's 3rd son he's 91, oddly we have discussed this lots of times and he is the one who thought his Son was James and lived in Rotherham.  Yes James lived in Manton Flo moved into care after he passed away.  Not aware of anyone in Worksop that has a connection... William and Mary are buried in St Johns Church Yard Wales. Unfortunately there isn't a stone, its right as one enters the gates, one wouldn't know there was a grave there as it has just been grassed over and I'm afraid people just appear to walk over it.                             if you would like to contact me I will forward all the details I have and see what photos I have.  If they are buried it will probably be in Manton Cemetery.  I more or less lost contact after I married. They were regular visitors to my Grandmothers at Kiveton. Hope to hear from you Dorothy
