Sydney James Redburn, Kentucky, 1920-1945
« on: Friday 16 July 10 22:24 BST (UK) »
I would be most grateful if anyone can identify my relative Sydney James Redburn before he joined the US Army in Indiana in 1941, please.

Sydney lived in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky before enklisting and was killed in Belgium on 1 May 1945.

His mother Mary had moved from Canada to USA when he was young and she had originally lived in England. I think Sydney was born shorthly after Mary arrived in Canada, but don't know if she married before or after she moved from Canada to USA.

Thank you

Hello Karenlee and Merjones

Up early this morning to see if anyone has been able to help and was delighted to see your responses.  I am delighted by your swift and helpful responses and have the rest of the day to sort them out.  Thank you very much.

They put a new interpretation on the received family history because we had not considered that Mary had been in Canada and was returning there.  Your information also makes it possible that she had left Sydney in Canad while having a 'holiday'.

Another triumph for Rootschatters.

Best wishes

Hi Karenlee,

I live five miles from Goole and 30 miles from Leeds where I was born, seems I will have to go digging there later today.  This is another of those intriguing stories. Thank you so much.

Just wish that I could pinpoint something more concrete for you about Sydney though, I seem to be getting information about his family but not him.

You are doing great.  We know Sydney was with the parachute infantry of the 82nd Airborne and saw action at Anzio, Italy  before being killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium.   Like many red-blooded males at that time he had a girl over here too and they had a daughter.   Helping to understand his family circumstances and putting the facts together with the sketchy received family history is of enormous help.
