My name is Peter Cooke. I live near York UK. I have recently discovered (at the age of 70) my original family of 11 brothers and sisters. I was secretly adopted in 1941. I have discovered also that my real great grandfather lived in Pollaturick and worked as a station master/signalman at Milltown station Co Galway late 19th century. His name was James Casserly. My wife and I visited the area last week and took photographs of the remaining station property and attempted to recognise James's house in Pollaturick. On behalf of all my family (now Casserley) living in the Uk, Australia and Spain I would be pleased to hear from anyone who may have more local information. Thank you.

Also a possibility that it was Milltown, Tuam (Tuome)  It should be possible to get a copy of the following record and check address,
Patrick Loughlin
born 22 Oct 1864
Tuam registration district, Co. Galway
page 566 in civil register
Father Patrick Loughlin
Mother Bridget Mullen

Hello, Ammeneedia

That looks very interesting. As you can see from above, in 1901 his birthplace is given as Tuone.

You say it should be possible to get a copy of  the record. Where would I go to get such a copy?

Thanks

Jonathan

The record from the Irish births on LDS Pilot site has the page number from civil register which will help find it in the civil index (also on LDS Pilot site) so that you can get the details needed to order the birth certificate.

Patrick Loughlin, 1864, Tuam registration district, volume 19, page 566

Hello,

Can anyone find a Thomas Loughlin born to the above parents (Patrick and Bridget) of Patrick Loughlin?

Also I am awful slow on the uptake. Can I order the Patrick Loughlin 1864 Tuam birth online?

Thanks

Jonathan

...

there's no online facility from the GRO - you have to order by post with the references mentioned earlier. See the link in aghadowey's post above for how to order certs.

I think the two towns that you are referring to are Ballyhaunis and Tuam. Milltown lies between them. Both are much larger than Milltown and in my experience of genealogy research in Ireland it was not uncommon for someone to list the closest, larger more established town. I have often seen Tuam listed by people who came from Milltown.

I have copies of some of the Milltown parish records. I found a Patrick Loughlin born to Patrick and Mary Mannion on February 3, 1861. Godparents were James Mannion and Honor Donlon.
