'Harley' family of Sileby
« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 18:57 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the baptism of James Harley about 1695-1700.  He married Elizabeth Sarson on the 14th January 1723 at Sileby, Leics.  Elizabeth was from Queniborough but I cannot find any trace of James before this marriage. Can any-one kindly point me in the right direction?  Many thanks. ???

freereg has quite a lot of Harleys from sileby . if you chech the burials there are about 5 children blonging to James & Eliz and also the burials i think for James & Eliz themselves.

I can check the sileby records next time in L'boro library for you.

Hi Diddy,
I have tried freereg and have managed to find his marriage and burials of James & Elizabeth and several of their children, but his birth is a mystery. I think there are a lot of christenings missing for Sileby wonder if some have been lost or damaged.  Would appreciate you looking at Sileby records for me - it will be a big help.  Best wishes.

Greeting’s Again. …..

Just checked out Phillimores Marriages Sileby

They Have it as Elizabeth SARSON.

So it needs to be checked out for sure……. .

According to Phillimores there was a Hic – up with the Parish Registers

1682 through to 1705 were badly damaged and so unable to read the details

So. …Good luck Diddymiller.

Hi Mike & Diddy,
Here we are once again trying to unravel these ancestors of ours.  You know far more about Leicestershire parish records than I do and the state of them.  I thought that perhaps they weren't in such a good condition as I have found lots of gaps for baptisms in the Harley family.  The only other avenue that I can follow is perhaps to look at the B.T.'s for the period that cannot be read, have you any idea where these may be found and can they be accessed?  Best wishes.

ok - i cheated and checked the transcribed indexes listed by surname rather than the originals.

James Harley = Elizabeth Sarson 14/1/1723 Sileby

checked bmds 1682 -1714  no harleys at all

1715 -1764
children of james & Elizabeth:
George 11/12/1724   died 5/6/1743
James  25/3/1726      died 31/7/1726
Thomas  14/7/1729
james  16/7/1732
William  24/1/1734  died 27/1/1734
Elizabeth  6/3/1735

burial Elizabeth w/o james 4/3/1737

another generation? children of James & Elizabeth:
Elizabeth 26/9/1756
George  25/9/1758
Sarah  27/7/1759
Daniel  16/8/1761
Mary  14/10/1762  died  29/10/1763

so could not find a bap of your james -he could be outside sileby. have you checked Barrow? they are online.
