« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 22:15 BST (UK) »
Hi my grandfather William strachan, Born Bannockburn 1874 to John Strachan and Agnes Scott, the family moved to the Den Dalry Ayrshire where William married Jane Hamilton 1907, he then enlisted to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders reg no; 1901 at Stirling Castle where their son John was born  in Station Road Bannockburn, after discharge they returned to Dalry where my mother was born 1911, between then and 1929 Jane died the family was taken in by friends and william returned to the castle where he was a gardener, he later returned to Kilmarnock but I cannot find a death record of him in Stirling or Kilmarnock, and both my parents passed on 30yrs ago so can't ask them.
has any idea where i can go from here?

You probably need to check things along the way to confirm that the info you have is correct  :) Have you found Jane's death entry to establish when exactly she died? There is a death showing on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for a Jean Hamilton/Strachan born 1875 +/- 5rs. The death looks to be in Lanarkshire in 1923.

Jean's entry would show husband as still alive or deceased at the time of her death. All helps with narrowing down a time frame for William's death. There is one death showing for a William Strachan post 1923 in Kilmarnock, born 1874 +/- 5yrs - have you considered that one? It shows in 1926.

Monica  :)

Hi John, many thanks for your information, I was always told he was born in Bannockburn but this proves that not to be the case, William was my Grandfather and as I am the youngest of 12 I never got to know any of my grand parents history, hence my desperate need for help.
At least I will be able to search with the right birth details now thanks to you...
So glad I signed up to this site everyone is so helpful.
