Smith in Norwich
« on: Friday 20 August 10 10:45 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am chasing a branch of the Smith family in Norwich and can follow Robert Reeve Smith born 1853 back through the census.  I have his parents in 1851 too HO107 1814 376 32 but am wondering where the Reeve bit comes from.  His father was also Robert Reeve Smith born c1825.
Any help appreciated.

I had a double barrel surname in my research, namely Smith-Jones, (also from Norwich)
When tracing back i found the Jones name came from the mother who had  and registered the child out of wedlock, So used the Fathers surname and her's. Giving the child a double barrel name.

Thanks for the reply.   That is certainly a possible scenario - just have not found the link yet.
