(Wife, Julia, born Ireland.  According to the 1880 census, they had the following children: Elizabeth, Catherine, Emma J., Agnes L., Edward, George W., Charles F., James L.  Other children may be found on other census returns.)

1870 census includes daughter Mary A.  All of William's and Julia's children were born in Rhode Island.

William B Richards, born c1826:  Company G, Massachusetts 29th Infantry Regiment, 6 December 1861 to 16 October 1862.  Occupation: Shoemaker.  Residence:  Pawtucket, RI

That's interesting, Lisa,   Philemon had a son called William born 1827 <c>  Could he have travelled with his father?    How do I go about finding out?

According to the 1900 Pawtucket Ward 5 census,
Julia E. Richards, born March 1838, Ireland, was widowed.  She was living with Agnes L, and James L, her daughter and son.  Julia immigrated in 1852.  She had 13 children, 7 were still living in 1900.

I'm not finding his arrival, yet.  According to the 1860 census, Mary A., a daughter of William and Julia, was born in Rhode Island, c1854.

This doesn't help with the immigration, but while I was looking around, I found the possible burial place for two of William and Julia's children:

What a wonderfull site, Liza, 

Trouble is I'm not really convinced that William went to the USA, have found a marriage for him in England but could be wrong.   I'll have to order a marriage certificate which should sort out who his father was.  Not many fathers called Philemon Mangal Richards.

Would love to know who his father was, so will need to visit the Bristol record office sometime which is not easy.

I'm not certain William B ties in with your Philemon.  Perhaps if we find out more about William and his family, it may tell us if he was or wasn't related to your Philemon.  Either way, it will help (so we can eliminate him, and move on.)

FamilySearch has records for the Richards in Pawtucket (parents William and Julia).  I've not taken the time to look at them.
