Our ancestors didn't make it easy for us...
« on: Sunday 29 August 10 23:28 BST (UK) »
We have all had our lists of the same first names throughout our trees.
I have just finished a branch of my tree.

William and Eleanor had three sons:

William, Thomas and John

William's [Jnr] first born was William, Thomas, ditto, John, ditto.
William's second born was Thomas, his third child was John.
Thomas' second born was Thomas, his third child John
John's second born was John, his third child was Thomas.

They were all born within 10 years of each other and in the same street.

Luckily I had an ancestor of Thomas [John's third born] with all the information neatly drawn, who had made contact, otherwise I might have been a little dazed by the time I had sorted them.

Also William [Jnr] and Thomas each had a daughter Eleanor !

They were all born in the 1950's and their ancestor was born in 1920, still going and still researching her tree back to the Pilgrim Fathers.

The above mentioned are only attached by marriage.

But I have a plethora of Williams [18] and Thomas' [17] many of whom named their first born after themselves or their fathers.

Same here, lots of Thomas, Johns and Georges.  They had a cupboard full of Elizabeth and Sarahs to marry too.  Also married cousins.
