Hi Beth !

This information I got from CWGC.org

10575 PRICE, WILLIAM JOHN
a Lance Corporal in the 2nd Battalion of the South Wales Borderers was killed on the first day of the Battle of The Somme    01/07/1916
he is remembered on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL: Pier and Face 4 A.

Also, his medal index card makes interesting reading, shows that he was "Killed in Action" and actually went to France on 13th August 1914, very early as war with Germany was only declared on 4th August 1914, so my guess is that he probably was a soldier before War was declared.  Have you found him on the 1911 Census?

He was awarded medals.  The 1914 Star & Clasp, the Victory and British medals.

If you post in the Armed Forces section of RC there maybe someone who can tell you more about 2nd Battalion of South Wales Borderers as the War Diaries may still exist.

Hello! I just purchased your grandfathers shroud from the upcoming The Somme 19240 exhibit in Bristol, England. I chose his name because my last name is also Price and my family is from Wales. I know that does not necessarily make us related; however, it still means something special to me.

So, I was wondering if you have a picture of your grandfather that you would share with me. I would consider it an honor to have his image in my home.

Thank you for considering my request and thank you for your grandfathers ultimate sacrifice.
