thanks again everybody - so much information!  I wonder who Gustave was though, possibly another child....

Francina as the daughter's name instead of Fransisca makes more sense as Emily had a sister called Francina.

Hi Ruth,

I thought Gustave would have been Augusta.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Kris

Yes that crossed my mind too....think it probably is just a transcription error and Augusta and Gustave are one and the same.

Emily Sarah Euphemia Sievers was the eldest child of my ancestor Peter Sievers. Peter's ancestry is known on his father's side back to Samuel Chappuzeau born 1625, and beyond. See, for example,

http://home.wanadoo.nl/audeman/vRingen/vRingen.htm and
http://www.chappuzeau.net

Jennings (Somerset), Sievers (London and Netherlands), Richier (Netherlands & Germany), Chappuzeau(Germany),Garner (London) , Smith (Guernsey), Brand (London and Germany),  Burney (Liverpool & London), Oakley (Wales), Creek (Wales & Devon)

John Nicholas Sievers embarked on the "Caribbean" in London in December 1861, bound for Australia, but is not listed as disembarking anywhere. He was clearly a native English speaker, though his father and uncle were certified translators, having had Dutch parents and also French ancestry. Nothing more is known of him, either before or after this event. (though he is listed in the 1851 census, I believe)
