Williamson Lookup help please
« on: Tuesday 21 September 10 09:39 BST (UK) »
Hi

Ive been looking into my grandmothers family the Williamson's i have managed to trace then back to the 1841 census but i don't understand the transcript as there are a lot of Williamson's of similar ages in a household with no parents as i can see.  Would someone please be able to have a look and give me there thoughts??

My 3rd great grandfather is Samuel Williamson Born 1815 Church Minshull Cheshire.  The census details are: Rg no. HO107 piece 117, Book/Folio 13/12, Page 19, Nantwich Bunbury.

Also i know they were born in Church Minshull Cheshire how would i find the parish records to go back further??

Thank you

there are several different scenarios for this cencus.they could of course all be siblings or they could be 2 seperate families living together.the older samuel and one of the older girls could be man and wife or brother and sister and the younger names could be their children possibly.might help to look at 1851 for the younger names and see who they are with then.
regards
alli

1841 census does not give relationships - ages of adults over the age of 15 are rounded down to the nearest 5 years -also Yes or no is stated as to whether the person was born in the county they were living in (or S for b Scotland I =b.Ireland F = b. Foreign parts.

I will have a look at census

Hi Minnie
If you go to this site http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home,
and put in what you know about Samuel. you'll find a birth in 1814 in Church Minshull. Father Charles, mother Mary.  A whole host of children (I counted nine) between 1814 and 1833. Then you can find a marriage for Charles and Mary Bostock in 1812.
Hopefully you can tie them in with what you find on the Census.
Happy hunting!

Possiblity for Susanna

1851
Union St Ardwick Lancs
Susan Williamson servant 19 Domestic Servant in household of the Mason family
HO107 220 177 11

Sheis listed as age 5 in 1841 - but the enumorator could have been over enthusiastic and rounded down all ages?

Thank you all soo much.

I didn't realise that they rounded down the ages by that much at all.

I'll definitely have a look on the family search website this evening, very much appreciated.

M.S. usually means   Man Servant or Male Servant
So I would guess as Thomas is a  farmer, George will be a hired hand
