William Hyde, 2nd Batt. Cheshire Reg.killed Ypres
« on: Thursday 07 April 05 14:57 BST (UK) »
I am looking for William Hyde's details, other than he was killed at Ypres on 24th May 1915, his age, address, and parent's (if possible).  Was he an Ashton-U-Lyne Territorial?  Was he brother or nephew of Edwin Hyde aged 46 1st/3rd Lancashire Fusiliers (No 6140 this number was re-issued in 1902), he died 4th June 1915 in Gallipolli, I believe he was an Ashton-U-Lyne Territorial.  He was considered too old to have just joined up!  Thanking you.

Hi there,
I'm afraid I can't be a great deal of assistance, but have you looked at the following sites:
www.chester.ac.uk/militarymuseum/
www.cheshireregiment.org.uk
I hope these are of assistance to you and good luck in your research.

I may be stating the obvious but have you tried  the Commonwealth War Graves site cwgc.org with details of Edwin`s wife and parents it may be possible to work back through the census and connect the two Hyde gentlemen

Thank you for the Cheshire Web Sites, I have been trying to make time to go to Chester.
Yes I have after fours years of research traced my grandfather, William was his brother, but if my grandfather was considered too old to be involved, he brother would have been also. We have family photographs of William but do not know the relationship.  Edwin had been a sergeant and been demoted, his records were among those burnt.  I believe I need militia rolls, but Bury - Lancashire Fusiliers, and Preston Barracks have yielded no new information.
