This Muncie line married into my McMurdos but I don't know if they do go back into Dumfriesshire. John Muncie and Margaret McCartney married in 1788 in Muirkirk and their first two children William and Robert were born there, followed by James born in Kirkconnel, Thomas born ? and then John in Muirkirk.

John Muncie and Maragert McKartney natural daughter of George McKartney in Maxehead gave in their names and married at Lagliehead   26 March 1788
George McKartney of Maxehead was married to Mary Forsyth (Forsaith) and had their son(my direct ancestor) Robert was born in 1762 George and Mary were married in Muirkirk
Muirkirk Old Parish Records Marriage
Gorge McKartney and Marie Farsaith was married at the Church May 5th 1755
I assume that George had Margaret out of wedlock before 1755 or he had a extra marital relationship.
Try as I much as I have, I cannot find a birth for John Muncie/Munsie. He probably came from the Dumfriesshire area though. You can find my tree on Rootsweb  database name wilsongene  which has the lineage from George McCartney.

the mckartneys were from Haxelhead near Douglas Lanarkshire where John and Margarets first born William
was christened. there is a farmstead in that area called Hazelside which i have visited.I do not know if she was born out of wedlock as i have not researched it. John was born in Sanquhar as Census records declare but
I do not have proof as yet.

I don't think that Hazelhead or Haxelhead is the McCartney home. The 3 references to George McCartney each say MAXEHEAD and there is no reference to Douglas Parish. Why would he not appear in the records for Douglas parish Lanarkshire rather than Muirkirk parish in Ayrshire??? I know it is tempting because of the birth of William but the original records show it each time as Maxehead ie in 1785 then 1788 and finally in 1800. As these are Muirkirk OPR's surely a place in Douglas does not equate?
