Hi Worldlywanderer
I am interested in the Shuttletons, my g-grandmother was a Shuttleton.
Her parent were William Shuttleton and Margaret Jane Sullivan.
Married 1882 in St Quivox in the County of Ayr.
Any information you are willing to share would be great.
Thank you
Hineahua (NZ) :)

Hi hineahua,

I was brought up in Portobello for 20 years I lived just along the road at a place called Joppa, I remember my mum shopping in Copeland's on her way home regularly, she thought the product was second to none.

Portobello was a lovely little seaside town but it has changed a good bit not like when I lived there, the shops are a disgrace to what they were originally. The shop Copeland owned is the white one, in the days when the family owned it the shop front was just stone colour.

I have attached two photos, one where the shop was and the other where they lived, the house they lived in is on top of the shops to the left of the photo looking at it with the pink blinds.

It should be noted that Portobello is not in Leith or attached to it, Portobello joined Edinburgh in the 1800's and the town was started around 1747.

Cheers.

Archie.

Hi Thank you for your photos and information about the Copeland's shop.
My g grandfather was a masterbaker & confectioner, he died 1913 and my
g grandmother took over the running of the shop. Then her daughter and son in-law Annie & John Stewart. My G Aunt Annie Stewart was still running the shop until her death in 1981.
Regards Hineahua ;)

Hi hineahua,

Copeland's shop is roughly where the car is on the right, on the left of the photo this has all be redeveloped with nice buildings, the photo was taken around 1930.

Regards.

Archie.
