Birth: HOWARD Jesse About 1833 Glossop

  Hi,

I'm looking for a trace of the birth of Jesse Howard in Glossop Derbyshire in about 1833, which for some reason seems to be missing from the Free BMD and LDS sites.  I wonder if anyone can help with advice on why it might be missing or indeed may be able to fill in this blank for me.

Jesse Howard is the first child of the family of which Joe Howard is our ancestor.  Joe Howard emigrated to Castlemaine in Victoria Australia and married Rachel Maxwell.  Together they moved from the gold rush in Australia to the one in New Zealand in the late 1860s and despite never having children, left quite a legacy with traces of Joe standing up for the rights of the Chinese gold prospectors and running a large Hotel/gold assaying and stables.

You cannot find them becuase births were not required to be registered by law until 1837 and therefore records before that year are sketchy at best I'm afraid. I've had a look and I'm only getting him in census returns. Sorry.

I could not find anything, not even parish LDS records for him and had fingers crossed that someone local or otherwise may know another way to find out.

I am a little confused by your post, you state that Thomas Howard = Susannah 1833 Manchester.

If this is the case, then why in the details you give 1841 and 1851 census is the wife of Thomas Howard
shown as Ann and the wife Susannah does not appear until the 1861 Census?

There is indeed a marriage in 1833 of a Thomas Howard to Susannah, but do you not think it more
likely that the following occurred, given the Census information.

Thomas Howard = Ann,
some time between the 1851 and 1861 Census Ann died, he takes a 2nd wife Susannah who appears
in 1861 Census.

There are 3 possible dates for the death of Ann, 1855, 1856 and 1860 all in the Hayfield Registration
