A Wright Family
« on: Friday 03 December 10 04:11 GMT (UK) »
It's been a while and wonder if i can ask again re

a Hungerford birth for an ISABELLA MARTHA WRIGHT.   b circa 1810.  Her father was George Wright.  Mother, Sarah.  I have the IGA listing but have not been able to find any other info.

Isabella M married Henry Kemp in c1834.  They moved to London soon after and had 3 children.  I have most info on those following.  I don't however have any definite dates on Isabella M's death.  I have spent a good deal of time on her death search to no avail.  Her husband, Henry remarried in 1858.  I have Isabella M on the 1851 census.  She was living with Henry and their 3 children, Henry, Isabella and George.

Sometimes the Kemp surname is spelt variously eg Kamp, Kump.
I've not been able to find an 1861 census for any member of this family.  I speculate that with the death of Isabella senior, they went off somewhere and did not take the census.

Any input gratefully recieved.

Hi Julie, have you discounted this possible death of Isabella:-

Isabella Kemp March 1858 Chelsea 1a 1(06)9

The reason I believe a possible is that in 1851 they where living in the St Pancras/Marylebone area, which borders Chelsea.

Also on the said 1851 Isabella Snr is shown as born 1803 and Henry 1804 would this be right?

Hello Keyboard86

Thank you for your quick response!
I could accept the Chelsea death for the reason you give, but it's just that Henry seems to have remarried pretty darn quick (Jun 1858 to Mary Jane Bell).  I'll have to check out that death cert.  I think i did purchase it among a couple of others.  I don't recall being convinced by any of them though.
Isabella Martha Wright as per the IGI was born in 1810.  That's all i have on her, apart from the 1841 and 51 censuses.
Henry was born in 1799; baptised in St Mary's Chilton Foliat, then in Wiltshire.  He was the youngest of many children to Mary and William Kemp.  All the children were baptised in St Mary's.  I don't know where they lived exactly but on one census i think Henry said he came from Leverton, which is near both Chilton Foliat and Hungerford as i find from maps!  It's been over 30 years since i was in England.  More's the pity!  Maybe next year!

Kind regards
Julie

Hello again Julie

Thought that it might be useful to post a link to the previous discussion of the elusive Isabella where we had quite a chase that remained rather unsolved at the end:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,278187.0.html

don't want any keen Rootschatters to spend time on stuff that has already been discovered.

I remember that we discounted the Hungerford Isabella, for various reasons including that it says on two censuses that she was born in Reading.  But did you ever find out if Isabella had been married previously?

Maybe some fresh pairs of eyes will crack this one!!   8)

oh no, don't give up Julie!!   :(

I certainly didn't mean to put you off by posting the link to the previous research.

What we need to do is find out if an Isabella (Martha) ? married a Mr Wright in the Reading area between about 1820 and 1835.  You just never know, that snippet of information might be out there waiting for you!

I wonder if anyone is planning to visit the Reading records office soon, and could possibly look through the Reading parishes for you?   ::)

Hi jk22,

I'm not sure if this helps or just confuses the issue, but on the Wilts, Dorset & Berks Marriage Licence Bonds CD (Ex WFHS) there is a marriage by licence thus;

#64234         Isabella WRIGHT, 21, sp, Hungerford, Berks to
                     William RANGER, 21, Bac,      "              "
                     14 May, 1832, Hungerford, Berks
Could she have been a widow when and if she remarried 2 years later (1834) ?
