hi folks, wonder if someone can help.

I am stuck with a David Sandilands b. 8/12/1833 in Abernethy Perth, he was a joiner, married Christina McDiarmid 21 Aug 1857 in Dundee.  I can find them up till the 1871 census and then he disappears. I can find Christina and 4 of their children in the 1881 census but then nothing.  So I cant find David or Christina's death certificates.  I also cant find their childrens death certificates - Margaret b1859, John b1861, Catherine b1863, David b1865 Christina b1867 or Peter b1870.

This made me think perhaps they had all emigrated, albeit David earlier than the family but I cant find any of them on the passenger lists I have looked at (although finding emigration records is not something I am very confident with).

Any help very welcome, I am trying to get as much detail about the Sandilands family as possible and these ones have got me stuck, I just love the surname!!

thank you Sancti!  The margaret sandilands marriage is correct, but still cant find her death certificate.  There is a match for the couple in the 1891 english census but cant find a death in the english records either.  I will work on it.
That catherine marriage isnt the right one - onwards and upwards

What was John Sinclairs occupation on his marriage certificate?

I think on the marriage cert it says he was a machine fitter living in Stirling at the time.  Both his parents were still alive at the time as were hers.  In fact her father David Sandilands was a master joiner so might see if I can find any trace of hime through that route?

following that I checked the 1891 english census that may have been them and John Sinclair is a tailor so I dont think thats them.  back to the hunt!

Just to confuse the issue, I have Davidson's from Abernethy and Sandiland's from Rhynd, Perthshire,

thanks jimmijam, these Sandilands sure get about!    I have a heap of Davidsons as well on the other side of my family but their from Ross and Cromarty area!  I get myself so confused with who's who and where they belong

This may just be your lucky night! I've got some more for you. I hope you've got some time off over Christmas to tie this lot together.

Some interested individuals have amassed a partial database, available on line about Abernethy Graveyard. I quote, "In 2005 Bill Drever accompanied by J Kennedy, both inhabitants of Abernethy, Perthshire, conducted a research project to survey the graveyard."

These records are available to view online, but sadly the website appears to be corrupted, meaning that you have to search stone by stone. Having done this before, I knew I'd come across this surname.

What I'll need to do is split this over several posts, as I believe we're limited here. Happy reading...
