Ireland 1903 Census to go on-line?- completed
« on: Wednesday 13 April 05 22:41 BST (UK) »
On the Google Ireland Genealogy site this message appeared yesterday:

At the Galway International Genealogy Conference last month I heard that
the National Library of Ireland, with support from the National Archives
of Canada, would be putting the entire 1901 census of Ireland online with
free public access.  I'm not sure of their target date for completion.

Seems too good to to be true doesn't it? Especially the bit about being free!

Has anyone else heard anything to verify this ?

Hi,

The Rumour I heard was that the 1901 census has been transcribed and indexed but they are basing the financial model on Scotland's highly successful and lucrative pay per view model.

Kate,

Thanks for that input - I thought it was too good to be true about it being free!

Did your rumour include any tentative timescale for implementation?

Are there any parts of 1901 ireland census available
online or is it available thro LDS centres?  :)

I know of someone on another site who has recently been using 1901/1911 at her local LDS Centre - I believe she had to order the appropriate films in for viewing.

1901 Census returns for some counties are starting to appear online, for example:

Hope this helps.

There is an index for the 1901 Census for County Down on http://www.caora.net/find.php. I have used it often and it is free. I have also ordered film from LDS for both the 1901 and 1911 Census. Here in US, it costs under $4.00 and they send it to local center (oops  centre) where is can be used for 3 weeks.

Hope this helps.
