annie bennett - burial!!
« on: Sunday 26 December 10 21:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi and a Happy New year to everyone.
My great grandma Annie Bennett died on the 8th August  1897 at Ambleside.
Her inlaws ran a carrier firm during this time and I am puzzled as to where she could be buried.    All the relatives are buried in St Marys at Ambleside except for her father and mother in law of which I have no knowledge where they are buried either.    Her husband went on to marry again and lived in Sutton Coldfield
Her mother was living in Manchester but I cant imagine even with a carrier firm they would travel that distance with her remains.

I have checked at Grasmere and Rydal but no luck.   Would  anyone have any ideas how she can be traced.

Thanks
bashfuljampot.

I am wondering where the Ambleside Herald and Lakes news may have been kept, on microfilm or in an archives for this year,as I am sure her death would be reported in this or her obituary, possibly Kendal records office,it would be worth ringing them to see if there is anything available,on Annie or her family.Or possibly the Westmoreland Gazzette would have a mention of her death.

I found this by googling the newspaper,

Bennet Annas,Ambleside ,21st instance,aged 1 month,29th June 1883,but its only a tiny extract
Gunning County Down,Kneale Isle of Man,Riddle Tynemouth,Bibby Kendal/Bradford,Colenso Penzance/Barrow-in-Furness,Steele Corney Fell,Chapman Ely,Dawes Alfreton,Blamire Westmoreland and Ulverston
Dislike the use of P Messaging system, unless its of a sensitive nature, Rootschat is  an open forum,

thanks very much Radcliff for that.   I will do that and see what happens - with having the actual date of death it is much easier.

Thanks again

Hi,

Presumably you have the date of death from the certificate. This would confirm the place of abode as Ambleside and cause of death?

I would think that Langdale, Troutbeck and Windermere PRs are worth searching. Kendal Record Office may do part of these searches up to 10 minutes work.

Chris

Hi Chris
Thanks very much for that.  I know approximately the distance from Windermere
to Ambleside but where exactly is Troutbeck, and Langdale in connection to Ambleside
Sorry to sound stupid but what exactly is PRs??

Thanks anyway for being helpful.

Pat

Hi Pat,

Leaving Windermere in the direction of Ambleside, the turning for Troutbeck is shortly on the right. The 3 churches form a triangle: Windermere to Ambleside (5 miles), Windermere due north to Troutbeck (3.5 miles), Ambleside south-east to Troutbeck  (2 miles).

Ambleside is in the Parish of Grasmere, about 5 miles south-east from the Parish Church. Langdale is about 2.5 miles south-west from Grasmere and about 6 miles from Ambleside.

Sorry, PRs are Parish Registers i.e. baptisms, burials and marriages.

Good luck

Chris
