Wylie Familyh
« on: Friday 07 January 11 04:26 GMT (UK) »
hello to all.  I am searching for Annie Mary Wylie born abt 1863 Newport, Shropshire. Her parents are listed as  Robert Wylie and Ann Adams.  She married Hubert John Addenbrooke in Wellington, New Zealand in 1890.  That is all the information I have regarding her side of the family.  There is one Robert Wylie listed on the 1871 census that could be her father but the dates are off.  This Robert's parents are listed as David Wylie and Elizabeth Clarke.  I need help.  I can not find Annie listed on any census in Shropshire.  On her marriage certificate it states Newport as her birthplace.  Could this be wrong?  Any information would be much appreciated.

Can't find any matching birth in 1863.

Best I can find in Ann Mary Hayward, Sep 1861.

hello  thankyou for looking.  I am desperate to find Annie Mary Wylie.  She is my Great Great Grandmother.  Her marriage certificate states that she was 27 in 1890 and born in Newport, Shropshire to Robert and Ann (Adams) Wylie. Either the date or the place is wrong.  All I know about her right now is that she was married in NZ in 1890.  Is there any chance you could check through the 1860s-1870s for a birth?

I have been using FreeBMD - nothing comes up for Wylie in Newport.

Have tried phonetic spelling; expanding the date range; all to no avail.

It's a long-shot, but . . . . are you sure it's Newport, Shropshire?
It's not Newport, Monmouthshire, or Isle of Wight?

In the 1861 census, there are only 10 Wylie names in the whole of Staffordshire.
The only Robert is a 65 year old widower from Scotland.

In 1871 there are just 8 Wylie names.
The only Robert is a 25 year old, unmarried travelling salesman from Scotland.

don't know if you have already looked in
pastpapers.nz
there is a death listed for William James Wylie son of Mary Anne Wylie he was aged 37.  If you find his death cert you may find more info on his mother. he also had a wife Edith Grace so you may find info on a marriage cert too

Just another possibility:

There is a birth of Ann Adams, March quarter 1858, Newport Shropshire.
Could be an illegitimate birth?

Do you know when she travelled to NZ?
Was she with her parents?
Are there any details for them?

This is all I have for Annie Mary Wylie.
I have her marriage certificate.  It states she was born in 1863 Newport, Shropshire to Robert Wylie and Ann Adams. She married Hubert John Adddenbroooke in 1890. I have not found when she came to NZ but her marriage cert states that her previous residence was Newport.
I received her death certificate today.  Her parents are not listed and her place of birth looks like Billingham.  It is difficult to read. She had 2 sons and died in 1945 in Wanganui, New Zealand.

her parents are not listed as witnesses for her marriage.  I do not know if they traveled with her in 1889/1890?
