1750 Whaplode Drove, Wadeson-Weyman marriage
« on: Saturday 08 January 11 02:13 GMT (UK) »
Robert Wadeson (my fifth great grandfather) married Eva Weyman in 1750 in Whaplode Drove.   I am hoping that the marriage record may give an indication of his parents and birth?  I believe that Eva Weyman was daughter of John Weyman and Mary where Mary is possibly Mary Delamore (?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi rosball, welcome to RootsChat :)

I don't think I've seen parents names in a pre-1837 register.  Perhaps a parent could be named if one of the partied was a minor, but probably it would just say "consent of parents".  A parent could be a witness, but usually not.

Prior to 1753, I don't think you even have witnesses in the register. :( All I've seen is a date and the names of the happy couple.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

You will have to find the baptism of Robert Wadeson to get parents names.
Marriages were often in the female's parish, not the man's - but occasionally the man was from the same parish.
Good hunting

There is a christening for a Robert Wadeson in 1717 in York but I can't find any in Lincolnshire at about the right time.

After marriage the family lived in Spalding - they had a son Edward there in 1751, then had 2 children Mary and Samuel Weyman Wadeson in Barbados(!) before returning to Spalding where they had 2 more children John and Robert.

Am I right in thinking that they would typically live near husband's family?

And I wonder why they would travel to Barbados to live for several years  ...?

Sounds like they were connected to the sugar plantation business somehow.

I found a website with  Lincolnshire pedigrees which confirms the mother being Mary Delamore and more of her ancestry.

Hmmm it won't let me paste the link which I thought could help others but they could google Lincolnshire pedigrees.  The American Library link (www.archives.org/details/lincolnshirepedi51madd - link typed manually so error-prone) has an online book available to download and has a Delamore tree!

Confusingly I have now found another entry for marriage of Robert Wadeson and Eva Weyman in the Fleet's Registers in the National Archives.  This one gives marriage on 10 May 1742 with Robert Wadeson, Gent, Barnard's Inn marrying Eva Weyman from Holborn.

I have looked up Barnard's Inn and discovered that this means he is probably a solicitor rather than a publican (disappointingly)?

I'm not sure what the Fleet's Registers are exactly as there is a lot to wade through but apparently not marriages on board ship as I imagined ...?  Are these 2 different couples with the same unusual name or 2 different records of the one marriage (despite being 8 years apart)?

The 1750 Whaplode Drove reference was from LDS.

Any help greatly appreciated - getting more confused the more I search.

Thanks Geoff-E.

So I guess they had a "quickie" marriage when she was 16 and he was studying in London in 1742 and then later in 1750 when back in their parish they had a "proper" marriage.
