Just checked the 1892 death for Joseph, unfortunately doesn't match 'our Joseph'. Back to the drawing board!

Hi mlmcholm,
I'm not sure if you noticed but Ev posted in this thread that Joseph McHolm died in 1878. Although I haven't found anything to confirm this, so not sure where Ev sourced that information.

Ev sourced this from Scotlandspeople, if you look at the post the surname is spelt MCHOLME. I just searched using the information on the post by ev and got 1 hit.

Andy

Just to clarify the death of Joseph McHolme was 1878 not 1892.

On the death certificate it states the following:
Profession: Cattle Dealer
When and where died: 16 Bridge Street, Dumfries. 1878 (It does give a date but difficult to determine.....I would guess at August eighteenth).
Age: 63
Name of father & mother:
James McHolme, Cattle Dealer (deceased)
Margaret McHolme (deceased)
Further information: 16 Bridge Street was a public house (I think it still is - but a different name) by the name of The Grapes Inn. Bridge Street flanks the river Nith in Dumfries and is now called Whitesands. If you look at old pictures it shows cattle on this area. I imagine that cattle dealing was going on here. I also know that Joseph McHolme previously had a farm (Woodhead) in Troqueer and was born in Co. Antrim in 1817.
From what I know he had at least 7 children (4 boys 3 girls). Jane Clark McHolm(e) one of his daughters was my great grand mother who married Michael Barbour at the Grapes Inn (how strange was that!) on the 18th October 1877. They moved to Wigan. Lancashire as Michael Barbour made a living as a draper.

Percy_veer. Thanks so much for that, it all fits. All the other death certs had same father, James McHolm, cattle dealer. Our family link is through John, one of Joseph's brothers, he would be our greatx2 grandfather. Love it when a mystery gets solved! Just William ( born 1811?) to find. His 1st son was also James, as with the other brothers, so considering the naming pattern, it's a possibility!

This is a very late reply  :)
Do you have information as to where any of the family members are buried?
