Yes, thanks. 1881 at Llwynfasen is the one. We are stuck for info on David Evans (married to Anne Hicks) prior to 1841 though! Got him on all censuses after that.

Hello annbelle
Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Do you have the marriage certificate for David and Anne? If you purchase that it may help to trace David's family as it should give his father's name and occupation.

I believe that you have the census details from 1841 onwards, but please post any other details that you have already to save wasted effort by Rootschatters.

Kind regards
Morgan

hello morganllan
the marriage certificate of anne hicks and david1872 shows david,s father as deceased.his marriage to anne levy 1852 shows david,s father as william evans shoemaker.  the first information we have on david evans isof his first marriage 1841 to lettice puntan at llangathen church where he is shown as a batchelor of full age address as crofs inn and his father is shown as Wm thomas shoemaker.

we hold the followig certificates:
all three marriage certificates
all three death certificates of david,s wives-lettice, anne levy and ann hicks evans plus david,s death certificate.
also birth marriage and death certificates of davids children- anne 1843, john 1851  and birth of maria

many thanks annbelle

Hello annbelle,

The place is probably Cross Inn, Llangathen. Old Cross Inn is at OS 255680,222000 on the map, at the B4297 crossroads on the A40.

Have you tried looking for a shoemaker named William in Llanegwad / Llangathen census 1841-51? As his surname changed from Evan to Thomas on the marriage certificates, it is possible that David was illegitimate. It's not a large area and a quick look reveals mostly ag labs, fishermen, farmers, and servants so a shoemaker shouldn't be difficult to spot!  :)

Kind regards
Morgan

hello morganllan
Unfortunately no shoemaker by the name of william in llanegwad/llangathen census 1841 -1851, but i do feel sure that david must have been in this area prior to 1841as many of the people and place names we have come across before:david williams of crofs Inn and william ambrose of pantycelin are witnesses to his first marriage to lettice puntan 1841.

Interestingly 1851
census shows david evans at morgan cottage with his family (district of hernin llanegwad with no. of house 107) and directly beneath  at house no. 108 is a thomas evans shoemaker bornllanfynydd 1782,. both entries appear to be Morgan cottage.

i have found thomas evans and his family also at llangeler rhos y corn  at tynewydd on1861/ 1871
census and at this address for 1851 also ( maybe entered twice ? ) i think the age gap between thomas and his wife rachel confim these are all the same couple. thanks annbelle

Hi annbelle

1841 named as William Thomas
1852 named as William Evans
1872 deceased

Wonder if his father was William Thomas Evans  :-\

Who was in the same household as Thomas Evans in 1841?

1851 census shows david evans at morgan cottage with his family (district of hernin llanegwad with no. of house 107) and directly beneath  at house no. 108 is a thomas evans shoemaker bornllanfynydd 1782,. both entries appear to be Morgan cottage.
Agree that they are at the same address in 1851
HO107 Piece 2471 Folio 186 Page 22

They are probably related. David and Thomas both born Llanfynydd so need to look there for christening records.  IGI batch # C099441 but beware of Welsh patronymic names  ;)

Best Wishes
Morgan
