RAE/HICKS/JAMES families
« on: Saturday 05 February 11 19:59 GMT (UK) »
My father Thomas Victor RAE was born in Scotland 21st October 1910 and arrived in Australia (Victoria) in1913 with his father and mother. Edward Rae (1888-1965) and Janet McQueen Keith 1890-1972). He married Edna Hicks in February 1932 and divorced on 17th December 1936. He married Winifred Martha James 26th June 1937 at Maroubra Junction.  He joined the Army on 3rd November 1939 and was overseas 1145 days and home for 401 days. He was in the 2/1 Australian Field Regiment, gunner NX3375. I am trying to trace any children of the above marriages. Before Dad died there was talk of children. I have written over 200 letters to "Rae's" both in NSW and Victoria without success. Any help would be appreciated. Kindest Regards OLAF.

Welcome to Rootschat but this isn't a forum for tracing living relatives and from the marriage dates it's quite likely that any children might still be alive.
There are some links to suggestions for tracing living people in the help pages and I'll move this thread to the Australia board for more general advice. If anyone can provide you with details of living family members they'll have to do so via PM (personal message)- each person needs to have at least 3 posts to use this.

www.ryersonindex.org
has an entry for a Thomas Victor RAE, deceased 1988.
You can request a look-up of the entry from the website, it should give you clues to further family.

The entry is from a Queensland newspaper "Fraser Coast Chronicle".

Hi there,

Your Dad's WWII records are not yet available online, but in case you are not aware, these are very often quite lengthy and informative files .... for example, my late father's WWII service records run to around 40 pages, and include correspondence between his parents and the army, his siblings and the army, etc ....  Letters from my Dad written years after the War, but to do with Veteran's Affairs are on his files ... NO telling what could be on your Dad's files ... remember any correspondence will have his then address on it and that helps RChatters following up clues for you!

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx  .... search as a guest and put your Dad's name in, and just follow the prompts .... to commence the process towards digitising his records (costs around $Au 20 or less, takes up to 3 months) .....

Cheers,  JM

Thank you Leanne,
The info you have on Dad was correct. Unfortunately there was no other children on the death certificate except my two brothers. The search goes on. Kindest Regards Olaf
