Beyond the Palgrave CLARK(E)??
« on: Saturday 05 February 11 20:36 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I've really hit a brick wall with information of ancestors before what I believe is my earliest:-

Palgrave Clark (or clarke) born 1716, westhall, Suffolk married to a lady called Elizabeth.

I live in the channel Islands so can't get to any records offices in Suffolk so any help or suggestions would be brilliant.

Thanks for Reading,

Jason :)
Looking back on my Paternal line at present:-
Clark'e' family from Suffolk
these families are linked by Marriage:-
Hopkins - Erith, Kent
King - East-end, London
Baker - Ware, Herts
Burgess, Suffolk
Tuthill, Suffolk

Do you have an LDS centre in Jersey?  If so you could possibly order film of the parish records for Westhall St Andrew (1559-1900 on 17 fiche).

There may be SKS on the board who will be going along to a branch of the Suffolk Record Office and would be willing to carry out a look up on your behalf, or one of the Rootschatters may have the PRs for Westhall.

I see you have chosen a nice common Suffolk name to research - Clark/e   ::)

LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

Thanks Pat, thanks diddy. :-)

I dont know of any LDS here in Jersey Pat, I'll have to have an ask round or perhaps order the fiche online as you have suggested.

Its from your records, could you see any mention of anyone else Diddy? e.g. any other clark(e)s' before Pedgrave or his other alias Palgrave?

As I know his decendents gradually then went to Uggeshall, I was wondering if his parents came from westhall but perhaps he moved and settled there from elsewhere in the county?

Best wishes as always

Jason

Have just checked the 'Locations' page on Family Search (LDS) and found that there is a centre in Jersey (not sure if they were showing one in Guernsey too).

the old pilot family search record site (think you can still go back to it from the new one - i have it saved in favourites) has clarkes in westhall back to 1560.... so worth a look.

there are 5 other clarkes , westhall on the suffolk burial index further back than Palgrave :

Georgius 29/12/1568  s/o Johannis
Johanna   4/2/2569      w ife of Johannis
Arthur     28/8/1665
female    12/3/1669  wid
John        14/2/1682  lab

I posted Palgraves chr as child of Elizabeth clarke - there are 2 other children listed on family search with just mother Eliz:

Susanna  2/6/1714 westhall
Christopher  6/7/1701

as Palgrave named his daughter susannah its possible these may be siblings - but no proof!!
