Visser Family South Africa

Searching for the grand (and possibly great grand) parents of Hester Cecilia VISSER born cir 1836 and passed away in Vogelgenaas, Britstown on 5 Mar 1920 - her parents are listed as Hendrik and Johanna VISSER (no other details are known.  I am trying to link her up to another tree that I can trace to 1713 and this info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there my husband's Mother is Visser her name is  Anna Hendrina Cornelia  Visser born in 1943 in south africa and she married Stephen Eric Whittaker who is still alive Anna died on 25 December 1995. I hope this is some help. this is all I know at the moment as I am doing the Whittaker and McMaster family tree at the moment myself. So if you find out any think else about the visser family that is linked to the info I gave you pls let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately she is not listed in my research and I have been taking a break with the Visser side, I am missing one generation up, from there I can trace the Vissers back to the arrival in SA. I find that if I take a break for a while - I often hit the jackpot later :-)

Try googling the "Jan Coenraad VISSER GERRITS" you'll find heaps of sites that have bits of the Visser family on them as well as a Visser family site.

I have managed to trace Jan Coenraad down, but I am missing one or two generations and battling to get my lines linked up, I will carry on trying 0 hopefully I will hit a luck somewhere.

Looking at "Geslacht Register" there appear to be a number of "Visser" stamouers
You can download a very old copy for free on the University Of Pretoria web site.
What might be interesting (given that names often run in families)  is:
a)Gerrit Visser and Johanna Theilemans
-b) 4 Johannes Visser and Maria Slabbert
-- c)5 Johannes and Johanna Slabbert
---d)7 Gerhardus Jurgen and Hester Cecilia Liebenberg
----) e 3 Hendrik  Gideon baptised 1813

It stops at this generation but this looks likely - hopefully once familysearch publishes the church registers you may be able to confirm this

If you find this book on the UPE Site Geslacht-register der oude Kaapsche familien. Deel 3, P tot Z
look to download part 011 it has the Visser Genealogies in it
