Dundee street question Sorted Thx

Hi everybody,

GGGGramps lived at George's Place, Joint Stock Buildings, at the 1851 census. Can't find it...suppose it all disappeared decades ago

He was a seaman, so I'm supposing it would likely be near the docks.

He died between 1857 and the 1861 census and his widow moved into Tindal's Wynd...I have found some very charming photos of the area which was between Greenmarket and the Vault. Probably wasn't quite as charming if you had to live there, though.

Anyway, can somebody give me a clue about George's Place, or the Joint Stock buildings? What were they anyway?

I'm not sure if the place you are looking for is actually mentioned, but you could browse through this collection of old photographs of Dundee - its worth bookmarking the site.
 It even goes as far as mentioning shopkeepers within the photograph !

Aha, I got it...it's off Wellgate. Was off Wellgate

Without the bridge to orient myself it was tough to find
