Yes sorry, will fix I have a problem with centuries (I often write dates 100 years out)  ::)

I wouldn't like to say if there is a connection between any of these families. The Pelynt family seem to be most often KEKENNY. There is a third family in Falmouth Gilbert and Elizabeth and an earlier Duncan MACKENNY in Falmouth and a Mordecay MACKENNY in St Ives in the 1680's. The names all look to me to be likely corruptions of Mackenzie. You have to realise that outside of Cornwall MACKENZIE is a very common name. I see no reason to connect any of these familes at this stage.

I have also found a second transcripts of Daniels marriage listing him as MINKENNIE. You could order copies from the CRO - There will be no other information in  Daniels as it was prior to the forms so it will be just one line on the page. Ralphs may help with witness names.

Hi Kris,

Just a thought on pronounciation. Are you familiar with the TV crime series 'Dalziel & Pascoe'? Superintendent Dalziel used to insist that his name should be pronounced 'Dee-el'. Do you think that the 'z' in Mackenzie suffered in the same way, giving us something like 'Macken-ee'?
Accepting your hypothesis that MACKENZIE is the true name, does this mean that at some time in the distant past I have Scottish ancestry?

Regards

Research on my family identified a marriage in Manchester 7th February 1769 between Robert Bohannah (Behennah) born 17/8/1749 St Clement Cornwall and Mary Mekenny/Maccanny/Menkenny christened Pelynt Cornwall 29/9/1745.
Both new surnames to Lancashire at the time and most likely to be an elopement - Robert 19 and Mary 23.
How that fits in to Ralph Menkenny is the purpose of this posting. Can anyone help?

My MENKENNYs were based in Kenwyn, which is some 24 miles from Pelynt. However, it is only a couple of miles from St Clement - how certain are you that Mary was baptized in Pelynt?

The only Mary (1765) I have at present is my direct ancestor, so is definitely not the one you seek. I'll have a look to see if I can find any more.

What I have is:-

   Duncan MACKENNY b c1680

his son Daniel MACKENZIE (bap 01 Dec 1713 in Falmouth) m Sarah PHILLIPS 24 Apr 1742 in Kea

They had at least 3 children:-

Ralph MENKENNY (bap 27 Feb 1742 in Kenwyn)
William MACKENNIE (bap 10 Aug 1746 in Kea) died sometime before 1750
William MACKENZIE (bap 25 Oct 1750 in Kenwyn)

Surnames and parishes change a lot, so it's not easy to keep track of them.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Many thanks all for the additional background information. I will return to my research later this year. The certainty is the marriage alongside many other couples at Manchester Cathedral 7th February 1769. Robert b.17/8/1749 St Clement Parish was probably the son of Ferdinando Behenah/Behenna/Bohenna of Kea.( there are many Ferdinandos over the generations)

Mal,
   Thanks for the new info.

Where was the marriage of Duncan MACKENIE and Sarah ANTRON? Was it Falmouth? If so, he must be 'my' Duncan, and I shall happily add Sarah etc to my tree.
