Gin, Alloa
« on: Wednesday 23 March 11 20:41 GMT (UK) »
I have an ancestor Margaret Hunter born in Gin in the parish of Alloa in 1745. Does anyone know where this is or was? Is it possibly related to Gean, as in Gean house in Alloa?

Hi
Just come across your post. I used to work in Alloa and there was a Ginns Road in Alloa which referred to the winding gins used in the coal mines.

Thanks for that thought. From the parish register of her son's birth I know that her husband David Hunter (who was also from Alla) was a coal heaver so clearly there were pits in Alla back then so this is a real possibility.  Alex.
