Hi
If you have the marriage cert, can you possibly provide James' occupation, address and father's name at that time please. Also....was he a bachelor? :)

I see the marriage took place at St Michaels, Brodsworth.

Thanks Maidmarion

But  it looks like the wrong family.
My James was born in 1816 and his wife Fanny was born at Hooton Pagnell in 1821
can you have another look please.

Hi
I wouldn't rule him out just yet as I couldn't see another James Mann born in Marr 1816 anywhere! ;)

Hi Maidmarion.

          thanks again-

I calculated his birth year from the census, which as you know can be notoriously inaccurate, that's why i put c.1816 in my original posting.
so 1816 may be a bit out.

On the new familysearch site there is a James Mann baptised at Marr on 28 Jan 1816, s/o George Mann and Ann.

There are also children being baptised to at Bolton-upon-Dearne to a James Mann and Fanny.

Hi there

I too have followed James Mann through the census and the one born
in 1816 in Marr nr Doncaster is the only one who goes through to
1901 aged 85. He seems to have lived a good life, maybe the fresh air of
Wales did him good.
You mention that Fanny (Anne) was born in Hooton Pagnall, but that is
near Bentley as is Marr and Brodsworth, they are all within a few miles of each other. If the scribe writing the census couldnt understand the words Hooton Pagnall with a strong Yorkshire accent it was probably better to say Bentley which he might have understood better lol.
He does get to the 1901 census as a retired photographer so he must have had some money to have servants from the 1851 census. Love to have known all his story as he looks a very interesting guy.
Like MaidMarion I think it is him in Wales then Fanny must have died and he came back home to Yorkshire

Thankyou one and all, great info.

Can anyone find him on the 1871 census please.

On one of the specialist web sites looking into Victorian photographers  they lists a James Mann working in norfolk, but now it looks like we have two.
