My grandmother, Lydia Linsdell, was born in 1888 in Linton. She had many brothers and sisters and moved to London to work as a servant. She lived until she was nearly 100 and we have many fond memories of her. Just thought you would like to know that you have many (distant) relatives here in London!

You have done really well to trace our family that far back - I have a list that only goes back to 1800. Keep in touch!

Sarah, do you know the name of Lydia's parents, or the name of her spouse, if any?  I believe there was a Lydia Linsdell who married John Stephen Farthing in 1920 in Islington.  Her father was John William Linsdell. Will be in London next month for a few days, visiting from New Jersey. Nice to know I have many cousins there!

Farthing was my mother's maiden name. Sadly he died when she was quite young.

My grandmother went on to marry Mr Kerridge. If you are coming to London, Linton is worth a visit. It is about an hour's drive from London. It is still a village although there is a lot of new housing around it now. It is famous for its clapper stile - you walk along a path to the stile and wonder how you are going to climb over it until you realise that it can be pushed down on one side.

This all fits as Great Chesterford is not far from Linton., where Thomas Hagger lived, and he was most likely a wheelwright as was his father Jeremiah. Haggers Close in Gt/Chesterford is where the yard was.
I have also come across a lot of female Linsdell's.
Edith 1877, Sophia 1848,Olive 1892,Rose 1899,Lilian and Daisy 1906,Ellen 1863,Minnie 1886,Emma 1832, Katherine 1868,Alice 1873, Ruby 1908, Elizabeth 1855, Annie 1879, Angelina 1872, Georgina 1892, Mary 1880 ,Eva 1909.
There is also. Maria, Annie, Emma, Alice, Edith, Ellenor, Hilda, Grace, Gertrude, Charlotte, Esther, Elizabeth, Ethel, Phoebe and Maggie.
I am sure there are lots more.
Dennis.
