WW2 - Royal Marine, medal entitlement
« on: Wednesday 27 April 11 15:29 BST (UK) »
Looking into someone who served as a Royal Marine (regular), including WW2.  He chose not to collect his campaign medals.
Is there any way of discovering what he would be entitled to, as with WW1 medal index cards?

I am not familiar with UK WW2 medals but do know that a certain number of medals he would have been entitled to just as a matter of serving during the war. However any campaign medals could only be determined from his service records. All his medallic entitlements would be listed there regardless of wether they were claimed or not.

The answer then is you would have to get his NOK to obtain a copy of his service records.

Thanks for that advice.  Not sure the NOK can or will help.

hi ainslie have a look in this site it tells all about the procedure for applying for a service record  , and it is possible for a non relative to apply as well but you would get a shorter version of the record but may be still enough to answer your question . www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html  as i say it will tell you what you,d get .
