William Hughes Winifred Salisbury
« on: Friday 13 May 11 08:35 BST (UK) »
I am also looking for my William Salisbury Hughes parents:  Owen Williams Hughes and Winifred Salisbury Hughes.

William and parent are in the
 1851 Wales Census
 1861 Wales Census
 1871 Wales Census
 1881 Wales Census
 1891 Wales Census

Owen Williams Hughes

Owen Williams Hughes was born on September 12, 1819. He was the son
of William Hughes and Eleanor Owen. William married Eleanor Owen August 20, 1813. They had the following children: Catherine, Jane, Margaret and Owen Williams Hughes.

All that is known about Owen Williams Hughes is that he was a long-time
farmer in Wales until he died in 1885. He lived in what family legend says was small castle or "Red Barn" The search for his burial place continues, but local searches in Wales have found no record of a tombstone.

He married Winifred Salisbury on September 20, 1840, they had the following children: William Salisbury who was baptized May 11, 1841, Richard Salisbury who was baptized November 12, 1843 and Owen who was baptized May 3, 1846.

Winifred died in February 1893. Family members say she was a opera star
in Wales. The picture shown is of one of her costumes she wore one stage. She is said to have sung for the Queen of Wales. Like her husband no record of a tombstone has been found. However, her father Richard Salisbury supposedly has a tombstone on the Anglesey, Wales.

It is believed that Owen Williams Hughes and his wife are buried somewhere on the island in Anglesey, Wales.

I do have pictures of the both of them.

Got any ideas where to look?

Hello  :)

If you purchase Winifred's death certificate it should give an address which may provide clues to her place of burial. Once you have a location and date of death, you may be able to find obituaries in local newspapers.

How interesting that Winifred was an Opera Singer! Perhaps there are newspaper articles about her. Did she travel abroad with an Opera Company? By the way, there isn't a Queen of Wales, but Winifred may have sung in front of Queen Victoria. Victoria's son Edward was Prince of Wales from infancy until the death of his Mother in 1901. Edward married Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863, and she became Princess of Wales.

Hello again  :)

I can see from 1881 that the family are from Llanrhyddlad so have you seen the Genuki info on this Parish?

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/AGY/Llanrhyddlad/index.html

The Farm is 16 acres in 1881 and is called Ty Cochyn (or Red House in English). If they died in Llanrhyddlad, they may be buried there.

Do you have Winifred's Baptism?

I found one for a Winifred Salisbury on 2nd November 1816, the daughter of Richard Salisbury and Jane Jones, at Llanrhyddlad Calvinistic Methodist Chapel. Richard was a labourer of Penyfoel, Llanrhyddlad. Jane was from Llanfaethlu.

There are other Salisbury Baptisms on this site:

Hello again  :)

I know how easy it is to get side-tracked! So many branches on the family tree and not enough time to track them down.  ;)

Best Wishes
