WILSON and TAYLOR Brick walls!!
« on: Friday 20 May 11 10:02 BST (UK) »
Hi. Hit two very frustrating brick walls in my tree....

First is the Wilson family.

William Wilson born 1902, Coppull.
Father and mother>
Henry Wilson born 1862 (in coppull) - Married a Margaret Ellen Seddon born 1871 (in leigh)
Children:
George (b.1894)
Elizabeth Alice (b.1897)
Henry (b.1899)
William (b.1902)
Jane Ellen (b.1904)
Betsy (b.1906)
John (b.1909)

Above family living at Coppull.

I think Henrys father was George going off Lancs online Bmd entry for Henry and Margarets marriage.

Henry Wilson age 31 Wheelwright Bachelor of Coppull  m 20 May 1893 Margaret Ellen Seddon - 21 Spinster of Platt Bridge at St Mary, Ince, Lancashire
Henry's father was George Wilson, dec'd, wheelwright
Margaret's father was Henry Seddon, also dec'd, Mill hand
Witnesses:  Thomas Wilson and  Mary Ellen Pennington

Is there anybody that has any info on this family or could help with finding details for Henrys father George (and georges parents and any other children he may have had so im able to take the tree as far as a i can)

Would be much apreciated. Thankyou.

The second brick wall is the Taylor family.

My gt grand fathers name was Thomas Taylor (b.1886) His fathers name was John. No date of birth. John was a farmer.

Thomas's possible death details.
Thomas Taylor died age 60 Sep qtr 1946 Chorley 10c 12

Thomas... served in both world wars and at sea (so could have been in the marines or something similar, he worked with 'radios' at sea) He was known as a 'wireless wizard' in Preston. For being the first person in the north west to get tv pictures on his home made receiver' (source, newspaper cutting)
Also in the article it states he lived at Briers-wood,cocker lane, Leyland.

He Married a Lilian Wilkinson (b.1894-death 1955,Darwen,Blackburn)
Lilians father was a William Wilkinson (overlooker in a cottom mill),Her mother was Mary Wareing.

Lilian had a second marriage after Thomas died, to a Frank Gerrard although didnt last long.

Lilian and Thomas had one son, named Alan Lloyd Taylor (b.Nov 1925 death Dec 2010)
Alan had two marriages, One to Jean Brookfield. The second to my Nana Maureen Wilson.

Both Lilian and Thomas are buried together with their son Alan at St James Church, Leyland.

If anyone can find anymore clues to Thomas's family, father mother etc thatd be a great help!
This is all the info i have on Thomas and Lilian as my Grandad Alan L Taylor was the only one with any other info, sadly he passed away not too long ago.

Taylor.

Hi and welcome to the forum.  Firstly I would suggest that you separate your queries into two separate posts so that they don't get confused.

I will deal a little bit with Henry Wilson - I believe this to be the family in the 1881 census although the age of Henry is way out, could be the enumerator's writing was copied very badly.

Have you checked the 1911 census for your Henry and what age does he give? I get the feeling he's knocked a good few years off his age as he was so much older than his wife.

1871
Allison Arms, Coppull Moor, Lancashire
George Wilson Head M 54 Wheelwright and Innkeeper Leyland Lancashire
Betsy Wife M 50 " "
Tyson Son Unm 23 Wheelwright " "
Henry son " 20 " " "
Julia daur 18 Home Work " "
John son 16 Scholar Standish "
Sarah A daur 14 Home Work " "
William son 12 Scholar " "
Hannah daur 10 " " "
RG10; Piece:  4199; Folio:  145; Page:  47

Aah this is better, I was looking for an older child
1861 Coppull Moor, Lancashire
George Wilson Head M 44 Wheelwright Heapy, Lancashire
Betsy Wife M 40 Ashton "
George Son Unm 19 Wheelwright Wheelton "
Julia daur 8 Scholar Longton, "
John son 6 " Coppull "
Sarah A daur 4 " "
William son 2 " "
RG9; Piece:  3122; Folio:  50; Page:  3

The reason I suspected that there may have been at least one older child is because the marriage I think is them is

George Wilson and Betsy Collier 1841 St John Preston but you need to confirm this by means of the birth certificate of one of the children.

Hi thankyou for your reply...

I will seperate posts now... had enough confusion with this tree later without confusing anyone else.... :)

Ive come across couple of these before...Yes the date is way out, thats whats thrown me a lil...

Also the fact he wasnt included in the 1861 census.... but is in the 1871.

Do you think its the same Henry at Town little??

My word he didnt half move around...lol. At some point he must have lived with his wife margaret too....

Think il have to jot all these dates and ages down and try to work out some kind of timeline....see if all the info fits.

Have you come across any info of Henrys children or possibly his wife Margaret Ellen Seddon??

I mean by him not being included.... surely with him being listed as 20 in the 1871 census he would have been at home aged 10 in the 1861??

Another interesting thing about one of your posts are the grandchildren....  is there any records of their parents??
The different surnames are interesting too....

Just thought perhaps whoever did the census in 1891, mistook 'Betsy' as being short for Elizabeth... ?? Its a possibility as 'Bessie' or 'Bess' is often used as short for Elizabeth.

This would make sense as all the children are the same as living with Betsy and George.
Im assuming she was listed as the 'head' here because George had passed away by then....??

Unless they all moved in with another relative or some sort named Elizabeth???

Confusing myself again....got names coming out of my ears!! lol
