JAMES WINN 1822 BROUGHALL "COMPLETED"
« on: Sunday 29 May 11 11:42 BST (UK) »
I am endeavouring to locate James Winn born I believe in Broughall, Westmorland. In 1851 HO107/2417/13/5 James is a Coalminer aged 22 at Chirdon Head, Smalesmouth, Northumberland wife Sarah - I am guessing initially Sarah is a Robson - their third child is Thomas Robson Winn.

Any information as to parents Parish Record etc will be greatly appreciated.
Being overseas I understand I am unable to access parish records for Westmorland on-line. If this is not the case I will also be grateful for any direction.

Hello Robert,

Can't find a Broughall in Westmorland at the moment.

I don't know whether you've seen the 1861 census.  James and Sarah are still living in Northumberland, but this time he gives his place of birth as Garsdale, Yorkshire.

Interestingly, there is a William Robson, age 41, brother in law living with them - so that confirms your guess that Sarah's maiden name was Robson.

Thanks Yorkslass. I believe you are more on the mark with the 1861 James Winn - Sarah family. They are not the same and Falstone is one I am digging into as well. I feel they are the ones that are better candidates. I have a large Winn (John father) family of miners all born Garsdale, York and their dates do not fit at all in 1851 census. I am told and it is being proven daily that in the North East Robson is as common as Smith every else.
I think I will close this post now.
Regards and thanks again,
Robert
